Lifeguard certification class offered April 7, 8 9

Lifeguard training class offered


Lifeguard Certification Training will take place over spring break from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 7, 8 and 9 at the El Capitan High School Pool.


Sponsored by ASA Aquatics and the City of Merced Parks and Recreation Department and El Capitan High School, participants will learn American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Standard First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.


In order to take the class students must be 15 years old, able to swim 300 yards without stopping using freestyle and breaststroke. They also must be able to retrieve a 10 pound weight from a depth of seven feet and swim 20 yards with the weight only using legs. There will be a test on those skills.


The cost of the class is $245 and space is limited. To register for the class call 209-604-2733. A sign-up packet that includes parental consent is available at the City Parks and Recreation Department on the first floor of the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St., Merced. Department hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
